who is sabre…
Waxing poetics with her vulnerability and grace, SABRE is a new-generation artist who sings as if her life depends on it. She explores real emotions, building original music rooted in her love for Hip-Hop and R&B. She would prefer to describe her sound as ‘genre-fluid,’ given her vocals are a standalone instrument. She is often compared to the caliber of great artists like Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone and Ella Fitzgerald. She blends Pop, R&B and Soul with a soft, airy, and decadent style.
SABRE was raised by two new-age hippies who left the cold tundras of Canada in the ‘80s and made their American dream California. Their philosophy on childbearing was to allow their kids to explore life and express themselves freely. Born Hannah Renee Short, the young singer called SABRE landed on the scene in Los Angeles around the time she was 19. She spent her formative years in musical theatre, piano lessons, commercial auditions, and in the studio developing her artistic vision between California and Toronto, ON, Canada.
For three years, she worked at Park Drive Productions in Los Angeles as a songwriter and a demo singer. She built a solid catalog and generated multiple synch placements with major television networks such as ABC, TNT, and CTV to name a few. With a strong pen in hand, this opened doors for her to go on and write for major commercial placements and take on artist development opportunities with Red Bull Studios, Nate Fox (SOX, Chance the Rapper), Blended Babies, Jay Donaghey, Alberto Bof & MKRS Publishing, Quincy Jones Productions, and more.
It is her deepest aspiration to live as a performing artist, so in 2017 she packed up her bags and moved to the great white north where her mother was born and raised. It was a move that many in the industry had their questions about, but nonetheless, SABRE is as calculated as she is intuitive.
Toronto has been a blessing for her growth as a live performer. She has become a key player in the studio and has performed live at many of the city’s notable venues such as The Velvet Underground, The Drake Underground, PRIDE Festival, Kensington Market Jazz Festival, and many more. Her releases up to date have all been independently produced, marketed and distributed. Proudly, she has racked up hundreds of thousands of streams across DSPs. It is only a matter of time before this young chanteuse becomes a household name.
Currently, SABRE is in the full swing of motherhood with her beautiful growing daughter, Triniti and is engaged to Juno award winning saxophonist, Joseph Callender. The two write music and perform together often as The Callenders band. SABRE is working on a new original album with plans to release by 2024.
